Briston is a large village situated approximately 10 miles inland from the North Norfolk coastal town of Sheringham, 22 miles from the heart of the County's Capital, Norwich and 30 miles from the gateway to Norfolk, Kings Lynn.
The illustration above is the village sign which stands on a triangle of land at the junction of Church Street and Holt Road and depicts the following: The five crowns = the five manors of the parish; the animals and gates = the market that used to take place in the village; the wavy lines = the River Bure which rises locally; the sheaves of corn = the farming element and the roundabout in the centre = the travelling fair which historically visited in May and October but due to economic restraints is now reduced to one visit per year.
